Step-by-step

  • Prepare the Instant Pot by adding 2 cups of water and the trivet (or steamer basket).
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the egg yolks and sugar, whisking until the sugar is dissolved.
  • Then, add the cream and vanilla to the mix, whisking until just combined (do not whip this).
  • Next, pour the mixture slowly through a strainer into a spouted container (it will make pouring the mixture into the cups or ramekins easy).
  • Pour the mixture into ramekins, cover tightly with foil and arrange in steamer basket so that all are sitting straight.
  • Close and lock the lid of the Instant Pot.
  • Press [Pressure Cook] and then use the [+] or [-] button to set 9 minutes of pressure cooking time for ramekins and just 6 minutes for espresso cups.
  • When time is up, open the cooker using Natural Pressure Release.
  • Open the pressure cooker and carefully lift out the custards. Open the first and jiggle it a bit. It should be nearly solid, but not liquid (this means they have set) - they will solidify further when chilled. If they are still very liquid, pressure cook for an additional 5 minutes with the same opening procedure noted above.
  • Remove the custards and leave to cool uncovered for about 30-45 minutes.
  • Once the custards are cooled, cover them in plastic wrap and place them in the refrigerator to chill for 3-4 hours or overnight.
  • Before serving, remove the custards from the refrigerator, sprinkle the top with a thin, even layer of raw sugar.
  • Then, either melt the sugar with a culinary torch or slide them under the broiler in your oven to melt and caramelize the sugar.
Creme Brulee: A Culinary Delight

My Unexpected Culinary Adventure: Mastering the Art of Creme Brulee

As a busy fitness model, my life revolves around healthy eating and intense workouts. Time is a precious commodity, and honestly, I often find myself grabbing quick, convenient meals. However, there's a part of me that craves the indulgence of truly exquisite desserts. This yearning led me to a surprising culinary journey—making creme brulee. I never imagined I’d find myself mastering this elegant dessert, but the process turned out to be far more rewarding and less intimidating than I initially anticipated. The unexpected joy of creating something so beautiful and delicious in my own kitchen became a refreshing change of pace.

The idea first sparked during a trip to a charming French patisserie. The sight of those perfectly smooth, creamy custards with their crisp, caramelized sugar topping captivated me. The rich, creamy texture and the delightful contrast between the warm, sweet caramel and the cool, custard were simply irresistible. I knew I had to try making it myself. The challenge, however, was fitting this elaborate dessert into my already packed schedule. I am always on the go, traveling for photoshoots or competing in fitness events, so my free time is limited. The convenience of the Instant Pot seemed like a perfect solution for my hectic life. It promised a faster and easier way to create this classic dessert, making it a manageable project even for my busy lifestyle. I researched recipes, and discovered that this elegant classic dessert can be much less demanding than its reputation suggests.

The journey of making my first creme brulee was unexpectedly therapeutic. The precise measurements, the careful whisking, the anticipation as the custards cooked—it was a meditative experience that allowed me to disconnect from the pressures of my daily routine. The aroma of vanilla and cream filling my kitchen was an unexpected pleasure, transforming my apartment into a cozy sanctuary. The result? An absolutely stunning and delicious creme brulee that was far better than I could have hoped for. The satisfying crackle of the caramelized sugar, the smooth creaminess of the custard—it was a symphony of textures and flavors. It became a little moment of self-care that I could easily incorporate into my busy schedule. This wasn't just a dessert; it was a testament to the fact that even amidst the chaos of a demanding lifestyle, there's always room to indulge in the simple pleasures of life, like creating something beautiful and delicious with your own hands.

Now, creme brulee is a regular feature in my recipe repertoire, a delightful treat I can share with friends or enjoy as a personal reward after a challenging workout or a long day of photoshoots. It reminds me that even with a hectic schedule, taking time for the things that bring joy is essential for maintaining balance and well-being.
