  • Preparing Time: 15 minutes
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Served Person: 0

Step-by-step

  • In a 5 to 6-quart Crock-Pot, add cereal, dried fruit, nuts, pretzels, and graham crackers. Recipe is very flexible. If you don't have something, don't like something, etc. use something you do have on hand or omit.
  • In a microwave-safe measuring cup or bowl, melt the butter, about 1 minute on high power.
  • Add the maple syrup, brown sugar, pumpkin pie spice (I used 1 tablespoon but recommend at least 2 tablespoons if you want a more pronounced pumpkin flavor), vanilla, optional salt, and whisk to combine.
  • Slowly and evenly drizzle wet mixture over the dry ingredients in Crock-Pot and stir very well to combine. I use a silicon-tipped spatula so I don't break the cereal.
  • Cook on high power for about 2 hours, stirring well every 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Start keeping a more careful eye on mix at about 1 1/2 hours to make sure pieces on bottom don't start burning. All slow-cookers and ingredients vary, and cooking times will vary.
  • Cook until there's no visible liquid pooling and pieces have dried out. They will not be 'dry' and will be more on the sticky and tacky side even when done, but do dry out more as they cool.
  • Note - Although I haven't tested it, you could probably bake in a 250F oven, with the mixture divided between two baking trays. Keep a very watchful eye on it and toss every 15 minutes until it's done.
  • Turn mixture out onto baking tray and allow to dry for at least 2 hours, overnight is better.
  • Mix will keep airtight for up to 5 days.

My Favorite Fall Treat: Crock-Pot Maple Pumpkin Spice Chex Mix

As a busy working mom, finding time to bake elaborate desserts is a luxury I rarely afford myself. But that doesn't mean I have to sacrifice delicious, seasonal treats! This Crock-Pot Maple Pumpkin Spice Chex Mix has become my go-to recipe for satisfying those autumnal cravings without spending hours in the kitchen. It's incredibly easy, customizable, and best of all, it smells absolutely divine while it's simmering, filling my home with the warm, comforting aroma of fall.

The beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity and adaptability. I've experimented with various combinations of cereals, nuts, and dried fruits, and each time it turns out wonderfully. Sometimes I use a mix of Rice Chex and Cheerios, other times I add in some Golden Grahams for a touch of extra sweetness. The dried fruit is another area where I love to experiment – cranberries and cherries are my usual choices, but raisins or even chopped apricots would work wonderfully. And don't even get me started on the nuts! I adore the honey-roasted variety, but pecans, walnuts, or even a mix of different types would add delicious texture and flavor. The base recipe is remarkably forgiving; feel free to adjust the ingredients to match your preferences and what you have on hand. It’s all about creating a delicious mix that suits your tastes, so have fun with it!

This recipe isn’t just a convenient treat; it’s also a perfect way to share a little bit of autumnal cheer with friends and family. I often make a big batch and take it to potlucks or gatherings. It's always a huge hit, and it’s so much more satisfying than store-bought mixes. Plus, knowing exactly what ingredients went into it makes it all the more rewarding. And let's be honest, that warm, spiced scent alone is practically a guaranteed mood booster. This is more than just a snack; it's a comforting hug in a bowl, a little taste of autumn magic, whipped up effortlessly in my trusty Crock-Pot.

One of my favorite things about this recipe is how versatile it is. I've even experimented with adding a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg for an extra layer of warming spice. And if you're feeling particularly adventurous, a few dark chocolate chips added at the end would create a truly decadent treat. But even without these extras, the classic combination of maple, pumpkin spice, and crunchy cereal is more than enough to satisfy my sweet tooth. It's the perfect blend of sweet and savory, crunchy and chewy – everything you could possibly want in a fall snack.

So, if you're looking for an easy, delicious, and utterly autumnal snack that requires minimal effort, look no further.
