Step-by-step

  • Mix a little sugar into the warm water.
  • Sprinkle yeast on top.
  • Wait for 10 minutes or until it gets all foamy.
  • Pour into a large bowl.
  • Add flour, salt, olive oil.
  • Combine.
  • Knead for 6-8 minutes until you have a moderately stiff dough that is smooth and elastic (add a bit more flour if you need to).
  • Cover and let rest for 20-30 minutes.
  • Lightly grease two 12-inch pizza pans.
  • Sprinkle with a little bit of cornmeal.
  • Divide dough in half.
  • Place each half on a pizza pan and pat it with your fingers until it stretches over the whole pan.
  • Try to make it thicker around the edge.
  • If desired, pre-bake at 425 F for 10 minutes (I don't always do this).
  • Then spread with pizza sauce and use the toppings of your choice.
  • Bake at 425 F for 10-20 minutes longer or until bubbly and hot.
  • Makes 2 12-inch pizzas. If you don't want to use all the dough, you can freeze it. Take a portion of dough, form into a ball, rub olive oil over it and place it in a freezer bag (the oil makes it easier to take out of the bag).
  • When you want to make a pizza, take dough out of freezer and allow to thaw before using.

My Go-To Thin Crust Pizza Dough: A Busy Mom's Secret Weapon

As a working mom, time is my most precious commodity. Juggling work, kids' activities, and keeping a semblance of order in my household leaves little room for elaborate cooking projects. That's why I rely heavily on recipes that are quick, easy, and yield delicious results. This thin crust pizza dough recipe is a perfect example. I discovered it years ago—a happy accident during a particularly chaotic week—and it's become a staple in our house. It's incredibly versatile, allowing me to whip up a quick weeknight dinner or a more elaborate pizza for a weekend gathering.

The beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity. It requires minimal ingredients – most of which I already have on hand – and the process itself is straightforward enough for even my kids to help with (under close supervision, of course!). The kneading is minimal, a lifesaver when I'm already feeling the pressure of the day. And the best part? It makes two 12-inch pizzas, meaning I often have leftovers for a quick lunch the next day, or I can freeze half the dough for another time. This saves me both time and effort in the long run. It’s become my secret weapon for satisfying everyone’s pizza cravings without spending hours in the kitchen.

Beyond the Basics: What truly sets this dough apart is its adaptability. I've experimented with various flour types – sometimes substituting whole wheat for a healthier twist – and it always comes out perfectly. The same goes for toppings; the possibilities are endless! From classic pepperoni to gourmet combinations, this dough serves as a fantastic base for any pizza creation. I've even used it to create calzones and stromboli, showcasing its incredible versatility. This is more than just a pizza dough recipe; it's a foundation for countless culinary adventures, allowing my family and me to explore different flavor profiles and textures with ease.

Making it a Family Affair: I often involve my kids in the pizza-making process, turning it into a fun family activity. The simple steps are easy for them to understand and participate in, making it a great opportunity to teach them basic cooking skills while creating memories together. It’s a win-win situation – a delicious meal and quality time spent with the family. Plus, they’re far more likely to eat their vegetables if they’re involved in choosing the toppings!

Time-Saving Tips: I’ve refined my pizza-making routine over the years, incorporating a few time-saving tips that have become indispensable. I always keep my pantry stocked with essential ingredients, making it easy to throw a pizza together on a whim. Pre-shredded cheese and pre-made pizza sauce are my go-to shortcuts. Plus, as mentioned earlier, freezing half the dough is a game changer, guaranteeing a quick and delicious pizza whenever the craving strikes. I've even experimented with using different types of cheese and creative topping combinations, further reducing the preparation time.

More than just Pizza: The versatility of this dough extends beyond pizzas. I've used it to create delicious calzones, stromboli, and even mini pizzas for parties. It's incredibly forgiving, and the taste is consistently delicious, regardless of the shape or size of the final product. This adaptability makes it an indispensable part of my culinary repertoire, allowing me to create a wide variety of dishes without the need for complex recipes or extensive preparation.

In conclusion, this simple yet versatile pizza dough recipe is a cornerstone of my busy life. It's quick, easy, delicious, and adaptable enough to satisfy my family’s cravings for pizza, while still leaving me with ample time for the other essential elements of my busy life. So, if you’re looking for a reliable, easy-to-make pizza dough recipe that will become a staple in your kitchen, this is the one for you.
