Step-by-step

  • Line an 8 x 8 baking pan with parchment paper; set aside.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, add candy corn. Cook for 1 minute, stir, cook for 30 seconds, stir, then cook in 15-second intervals until creamy.
  • Add peanut butter, mix until combined. If the candy starts to get hard while mixing, place in the microwave for 10 seconds.
  • Pour mixture into the prepared baking dish. Smooth out with the back of a spoon.
  • Place in the refrigerator for one hour to cool.
  • Take candy out of the refrigerator and place on a cutting board. Using a sharp knife, cut into pieces. You can make any shape and size you like.
  • Make a double boiler by placing water in a medium pot, about ⅓ of the way full. Place a large glass bowl over the pot and add chocolate. Stir the chocolate until melted.
  • With two forks, dip the candy mixture into chocolate.
  • Place the candy onto parchment paper and let it set.
  • Store candy in an airtight container in the refrigerator for a crispy bar or leave on the counter for a chewy bar.
Homemade Butterfingers: A Sweet and Simple Treat

My Unexpected Culinary Adventure: Homemade Butterfingers

As a busy fitness model, time is my most precious commodity. Between photoshoots, training sessions, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, the last thing I usually have time for is elaborate baking projects. Yet, there I was, standing in my kitchen, surrounded by candy corn, peanut butter, and a mountain of dark chocolate, determined to tackle a recipe I'd stumbled upon online: homemade Butterfingers. The simplicity of the recipe – a mere three ingredients! – initially drew me in. I envisioned a quick, satisfying treat that wouldn't derail my fitness goals. The reality, as with most things in life, was slightly more nuanced.

The process itself wasn't exactly a breeze. Melting candy corn in the microwave required a delicate balance of patience and precision. I quickly learned that the key is to microwave in short bursts, stirring constantly to prevent scorching. The initial excitement of effortlessly creating a confection turned into a careful dance with the microwave timer, a dance punctuated by worried glances at the increasingly gooey, vibrant orange mixture. It tested my patience (and maybe my kitchen's microwave), but the end result was undeniably satisfying. The peanut butter helped create a surprisingly creamy texture, and despite my initial trepidation about the candy corn, the final mixture struck a delightful balance between sweet and nutty.

Dipping the candy into melted chocolate proved to be another unexpected challenge. I'm not exactly a pastry chef, and my attempts at elegant chocolate-covered squares were…let's say, enthusiastic. Some pieces were generously coated, some more sparingly so, and a few ended up looking like abstract art. But you know what? They all tasted amazing. The bitter-sweetness of the dark chocolate perfectly complemented the sweetness of the candy corn and the richness of the peanut butter. It was a surprisingly sophisticated taste profile, a far cry from the simple ingredients list.

This unexpected culinary adventure taught me more than just how to make homemade Butterfingers (though that's a valuable skill in itself!). It reminded me that even simple recipes can be surprisingly rewarding, and that the occasional foray outside of my comfort zone (and diet) can be a delicious way to recharge. The imperfections – the unevenly coated candies, the slightly messy kitchen – only added to the charm of the whole experience. They served as a reminder that perfection isn’t always necessary; sometimes, a little bit of imperfection makes things all the more enjoyable. And, frankly, those imperfectly-coated Butterfingers disappeared far too quickly. So, next time you are looking for a fun, relatively quick and easy treat, remember that even fitness models indulge sometimes! Maybe try my version of homemade Butterfingers. You might just surprise yourself with how delicious and simple it is.
