Step-by-step

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees and prepare your cookie sheet with Reynolds Cookie Baking Sheets Paper.
  • In a small mixing bowl combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt and combine well.
  • In a medium sized mixing bowl or using your KitchenAid mixer cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla. Then gradually blend in the dry ingredients, adding only enough milk to moisten the dough, so it’s soft and easy to work with. Be careful not to add too much, it will make it too wet and hard to work with.
  • Roll rounded teaspoons of dough until balls, place on the cookie sheet with Reynolds Cookie Baking Sheets Parchment Paper on the sheet. Spacing about an inch apart. You can sprinkle a little extra sugar on top before baking, but I normally don’t because we’re going to using icing in a bit.
  • Place in the oven and bake for about 8 minutes or until lightly golden at the edges. Remove from the oven and place on a cooling rack and allow to cool completely. Repeat steps until all dough are gone.
  • If you choose to go with cookie icing from the store, like I did, be sure to pop it in the microwave for about 15 seconds to warm it up a bit. It will make it easier to work with and spread out more evenly over the cookie. You can now skip to decorating your snowman cookie.
  • Separate the egg yolk from the whites. Put only the egg whites into a mixing bowl.
  • Stir in the sugar, cream of tartar and vanilla to the egg whites. Beat mixture on medium for about six minutes.
  • If the icing has the appearance of soup or is yellow in color, add more powder sugar, 1 cup. Once the icing is finished, place it in a bowl.
  • Remove about icing you wish to keep white and color the rest using gel food coloring of your choice, stirring to mix in the color, and place into another piping bag with a #2 tip.
  • Make sure your working area is covered with clean Reynolds Cookie Baking Sheets.
  • When cookies are cool cover them with cookie icing & spread it all over the cookie, it’s okay to allow some to go over the edges. It looks better in my opinion.
  • You’ll need to slightly melt the marshmallow. I do them one at a time by placing them in the microwave for about 5 seconds. You’ll get the hang of it, just make sure you have a few to practice with. When you remove them from the microwave and place marshmallow on cookie remember it’s okay if they don’t look perfect!
  • Draw your hands using black icing in the small tubes.
  • Use the same icing or if you have one you can use an edible decorating pen.
  • Add buttons using anything, I used Christmas sprinkles, but you can use whatever you like – frosting, M&M’s, etc.
  • Using frosting or even better if you have an orange sprinkle place it on the snowman’s face where his nose would go.
  • Using the decorating frosting drawn a scarf on your melted snowman.
  • Remember – HAVE FUN, MAKE YOUR MELTED SNOWMAN COOKIE ALL YOURS!
  • Place each cookie on a clean piece of Reynolds Cookie Baking Sheets and allow everything to dry.

Melted Snowman Christmas Cookies: A Festive Baking Adventure

The aroma of warm, buttery cookies fills the air, a sweet symphony of Christmas cheer. It's that time of year again, when the kitchen transforms into a magical workshop, and the scent of sugar and spice dances on the crisp winter air. This year, I decided to embark on a fun and whimsical baking project: Melted Snowman Christmas Cookies! These aren't your ordinary sugar cookies; these are adorable, slightly lopsided snowmen, ready to melt your heart (and maybe your frosting!). The process, while slightly involved, is surprisingly straightforward, and the joy of creating these little characters is unparalleled. The best part? They're incredibly versatile; you can adapt them to match your personal style and preferences.

My love for baking comes from my grandmother, a woman who could coax the most incredible cakes and pies from the simplest ingredients. Her kitchen was always filled with warmth and laughter, the rhythmic thud of a mixer a constant comfort. That comforting feeling is what I aimed to recreate while making these cookies, and the experience did not disappoint! I envisioned a family gathering, where everyone gets involved, adding their unique touch to each little snowman. The kids could sprinkle the buttons, the adults could meticulously draw the smiles, and the overall result is a reflection of everyone’s creativity, bound together by the joy of creating something special together. And let's be honest, these cookies are almost too cute to eat, but I assure you, they're irresistibly delicious.

The recipe itself is a blend of classic sugar cookie dough and creative decorating techniques. The dough is simple, requiring basic pantry staples. I prefer to use softened butter, as it creates a more tender and fluffy cookie. The addition of a touch of milk ensures a perfect consistency, easy to roll into perfect little balls. The baking process is quick and simple, ensuring that the cookies stay moist and retain their shape. Remember, don’t overbake them; lightly golden edges are the key to perfection! Allowing them to cool completely before decorating is essential, so the icing adheres properly and doesn’t run.

The decorating phase is where the real fun begins. I chose to use store-bought icing, mainly because it saves time, but if you're a baking whiz, making your own icing adds another layer of enjoyment. The marshmallows are the stars of this show. Slightly melted, they give the cookies their unique "melted snowman" look. The key is not to over-melt them; you want them to be soft and pliable, but not completely liquid. Practice on a few before you decorate all your cookies, and remember, imperfections are part of their charm.

The black icing details bring the snowmen to life. I used small tubes to draw the arms and the whimsical facial expressions. These little details transform simple cookies into delightful characters. The buttons are entirely up to your imagination! I opted for Christmas sprinkles, but you can use anything – mini chocolate chips, colorful candies, even small edible glitter! A little orange sprinkle adds the perfect touch as the snowman's carrot nose. A simple scarf, elegantly drawn with frosting, completes the look.

These cookies aren't just a treat; they're a story, a testament to the magic of Christmas. As you craft these little snowmen, I hope that you'll be filled with the same warmth and joy that I felt. The beauty lies not only in the perfect execution but in the process itself – the laughter, the shared moments, and the beautiful memories created. So gather your family, gather your ingredients, and let's create some delicious memories this Christmas. Don't forget to share your creations! I'd love to see your own melted snowman cookies.

The process is more than just baking; it's an opportunity to connect with loved ones, share in the creative process, and build lasting memories. The resulting cookies are not just delicious; they’re edible works of art, showcasing individual creativity and adding a touch of unique charm to your festive celebrations. These aren't just cookies; they're miniature masterpieces, each with a unique personality, born from the love and care that went into creating them.

This recipe is versatile, easily adaptable to suit different tastes and preferences. Whether you’re a seasoned baker or a kitchen novice, the melted snowman cookies provide a delightful baking experience, fostering a sense of community and celebrating the joy of festive traditions. The final product is a delightful array of charming snowmen, each with its own distinct character and personality, representing the love and creativity shared in the making of these delightful treats. I encourage you to experiment, to personalize your snowmen, and to embrace the imperfections – because those are what make them truly special.

So gather your family, roll up your sleeves, and get ready for some holiday baking fun! The warm aroma of freshly baked cookies and the shared joy of creating these miniature winter wonders are gifts in themselves. Happy baking, and Merry Christmas!
