Step-by-step

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, hummus and a sprinkle of salt and cracked black pepper (I used my hands) until well combined.
  • Form the meat mixture into 8 equally sized balls.
  • Mist a nonstick skillet or griddle pan with cooking spray and bring to medium-high heat and place some or all of the meat balls onto the pan (I did mine in two batches, it will depend on the size of your burner and pan).
  • Using a plastic spatula/flipper, press down lightly on the top of each ball to form a round patty.
  • Cook for 3-4 minutes (mine was good at 3 minutes) and flip each patty.
  • Once the patties are flipped, top each with a tablespoon of shredded mozzarella and cook, holding a large pot lid and inch or two over top of the burgers to trap some of the steam in and melt the cheese, for another 2-3 minutes or until desired doneness.
  • Transfer the cooked burgers to the slider buns and top each one with ½ teaspoon of pizza sauce, a pepperoni and the top half of the slider bun.
  • Serve immediately.
  • You could also easily make these on the grill if you’re tailgating!

Pizza Burger Sliders: A Quick and Tasty Weeknight Meal

As a busy working mom, finding time to cook a delicious and satisfying meal can feel like a Herculean task. Juggling work deadlines, school pick-ups, and after-school activities leaves little time for elaborate culinary adventures. That's why I'm always on the lookout for quick, easy, and family-friendly recipes that don't compromise on flavor. These Pizza Burger Sliders are a perfect example of a meal that checks all the boxes. They are incredibly fast to prepare, require minimal ingredients, and are always a crowd-pleaser, even with the pickiest eaters. The combination of savory ground beef, creamy hummus, and melty mozzarella cheese is simply irresistible, and the pizza sauce and pepperoni add a delightful touch of Italian flair.

The beauty of this recipe lies in its adaptability. Feel free to experiment with different types of cheese or add your favorite toppings. I often add a sprinkle of finely chopped red onion for a little extra zing, or some caramelized onions for a sweeter taste. The slider buns are also easily customizable. I typically use whole wheat buns for a healthier option, but brioche buns or even regular hamburger buns work just as well. Another great thing about this recipe is its versatility. These sliders are perfect for a casual weeknight dinner, but they're also easily adaptable for a party or get-together. You could easily double or triple the recipe to feed a larger crowd. And if you're short on time, preparing the meat patties ahead of time and storing them in the fridge is a great time-saving tip.

Beyond the Recipe: A Balancing Act

Cooking isn't just about following a recipe; it's about finding a balance in life. It's about creating delicious meals that nourish our bodies and souls without sacrificing precious time and energy. For me, this recipe represents that balance. It's a delicious meal that satisfies my family's cravings without requiring hours in the kitchen. It's a testament to the fact that you don't need complex ingredients or complicated techniques to create something truly special. Sometimes, the simplest recipes are the most rewarding.

Tips and Variations:

  • Spice it up: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the meat mixture for a little kick.
  • Veggie boost: Incorporate finely chopped mushrooms, onions, or peppers into the meat mixture for added flavor and nutrition.
  • Gourmet twist: Use a high-quality, artisanal pizza sauce for a richer flavor profile.
  • Cheese please: Experiment with different types of cheese, such as provolone, parmesan, or a blend of Italian cheeses.
  • Make it a meal: Serve the sliders with a side salad or some roasted vegetables for a complete and balanced meal.

These Pizza Burger Sliders are more than just a recipe; they are a symbol of efficiency and deliciousness. They remind me that even amidst the chaos of daily life, there is always time to create something special – and to enjoy it with the people I love most.

A Final Thought: Embrace the Imperfect

Cooking, like life itself, is full of imperfections. Sometimes, the patties might not be perfectly round, the cheese might not melt evenly, or the sliders might not look exactly like the picture. But that's okay. The most important thing is that they taste good and that you enjoy the process of creating them. Embrace the imperfections, celebrate the small victories, and relish in the deliciousness of a meal well-made.
