Step-by-step

  • In a skillet; saute the garlic with a little oil. Do not burn. Just enough to release flavor. Set aside.
  • Toast the sesame seed in a small skillet for just a few minutes. Set aside
  • In a large skillet; brown the chops on both sides till no longer pink. Set aside. ( I removed the chops from the skillet, washed the skillet and returned the chops. I didnt want the browned pieces in the skillet to discolor the sauce)
  • In a medium saucepan; mix the soy sauce, honey, chicken broth, corn starch, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, ground mustard, ground ginger, toasted sesame seeds and the sauteed garlic. Simmer until thickened. Remove from heat.
  • Pour half the sauce over the chops; add about 1/3 cup of water, cover and simmer in the sauce till tender and the chops have time to absorb the flavors. Turn the chops occasionally so not to burn.
  • Heat the remaining sauce. Plate the chops, and pour the remaining sauce evenly over the chops. Garnish with green onions and more sesame seeds if prefer.

Spicy Sesame Pork Chops: A Weeknight Winner

As a busy working mom, I'm always on the lookout for quick, delicious, and satisfying meals that don't require hours in the kitchen. This Spicy Sesame Pork Chop recipe has become a staple in our household, a perfect blend of sweet, savory, and spicy flavors that pleases everyone, even my picky eaters. It's incredibly versatile too; I often adapt it based on what I have on hand, sometimes adding different vegetables or swapping the pork for chicken. The best part? It comes together in under 30 minutes!

The beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity. The ingredients are readily available, and the process is straightforward, even for a novice cook. The fragrant sesame seeds add a delightful nutty aroma, while the honey and soy sauce create a rich, glossy glaze that coats the pork chops beautifully. A touch of red pepper flakes provides a pleasant kick—adjustable to your spice preference—making it a perfect dish for a weeknight dinner or a casual weekend get-together. I often double the recipe and freeze half for another busy night. The leftovers are equally delicious, reheated in the microwave or pan-fried for a crispier texture.

I remember the first time I made these chops. It was a particularly hectic Tuesday evening, juggling work deadlines and school pick-ups. I was craving something flavorful but didn't want to spend all night in the kitchen. This recipe was a lifesaver! The entire family devoured the dish, and the compliments kept coming. It quickly became a regular part of our meal rotation. I've even adapted it for potlucks, serving it as an appetizer with toothpicks, where it’s always a hit. The flavors are so well-balanced that it appeals to a wide range of palates.

Beyond its convenience, this recipe is also surprisingly healthy. The pork chops provide a good source of lean protein, while the vegetables (if you choose to add them) boost the nutritional value even further. I love the versatility of this dish; it's adaptable to your dietary needs and preferences. Feel free to adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to your liking, or even add a splash of rice vinegar for a tangier flavor. You can also experiment with different types of meat, such as chicken or shrimp, using the same delicious sauce. The possibilities are endless!

This Spicy Sesame Pork Chop recipe isn't just a meal; it's a testament to the power of simple ingredients and quick cooking techniques. It’s a dish that brings my family together, a warm and comforting experience after a long day. Whether you’re a seasoned chef or a kitchen novice, this recipe is sure to become a quick favorite.

Serving Suggestions: Serve these delicious pork chops over fluffy white rice, quinoa, or even mashed sweet potatoes. For a complete meal, I like to add a simple side salad or steamed vegetables. I’ve also served it as a satisfying lunch with a side of fresh fruit.

Tips and Variations:

  • Spice Level: Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to your preference. For a milder dish, use a smaller amount, or omit it altogether. For extra heat, add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
  • Meat Substitutions: Feel free to substitute chicken breasts or thighs for the pork chops. Adjust the cooking time accordingly.
  • Vegetable Additions: Add your favorite vegetables to the sauce during the simmering stage. Broccoli florets, sliced bell peppers, or snow peas would all be delicious additions.
  • Make-Ahead Tip: The sauce can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. This will save you time on busy weeknights.
  • Garnish Ideas: Get creative with your garnishes! Toasted sesame seeds, chopped green onions, and a sprinkle of sesame oil are all excellent choices.
