Step-by-step

  • Line a baking sheet with wax paper and set aside.
  • Place 10 ounces of the chocolate into a medium bowl. Using the microwave or your stove, heat up heavy cream until hot, but not boiling. Pour over the chocolate and let stand for 1-2 minutes. Using a rubber spatula, stir mixture until fully combined and chocolate is melted. Stir in chocolate hazelnut spread and cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 2 hours or until set.
  • With the help of a small cookie scoop (about 1 teaspoon), scoop out chocolate mixture and form into balls. Place onto prepared cookie sheet and place in the freezer for 15-30 minutes.
  • Heat remaining chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl until completely melted. Add oil, if using, and stir to combine. Remove chocolate balls from the freezer and place one ball at a time into the melted chocolate. Using a fork, evenly coat each ball with the chocolate. Use the fork to remove the truffle from the chocolate and before transferring it back to the baking sheet, slightly tap the fork against the side of the bowl to get rid of any excess chocolate. Place on the baking sheet and repeat with remaining chocolate balls. Pour leftover melted chocolate into a small ziptop bag, cut off one corner and pipe melted chocolate in desired design on top and finish with hazelnuts.
  • Return truffles to the fridge or freezer for 15 minutes or until truffles are set. Devour!

My Unexpected Nutella Truffle Adventure: A Busy Mom's Sweet Escape

Life as a working mom is a whirlwind. Between juggling deadlines at the office, school runs, soccer practice, and dinner prep, there's barely a moment to breathe, let alone indulge in a little something sweet. So, when I stumbled upon a recipe for Nutella truffles, I initially dismissed it. Another recipe? Another thing to add to my already overflowing to-do list? But something about the simplicity of the ingredients – chocolate, Nutella, and heavy cream – whispered a promise of a quick, easy, and incredibly delicious treat. And let me tell you, it was a promise kept. These weren't just truffles; they were a little slice of heaven, a much-needed break in my chaotic day.

The beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity. No complicated techniques, no obscure ingredients, just a straightforward process that even a culinary novice like myself could master. The melting chocolate, the swirling of Nutella, the satisfying process of rolling those little balls of deliciousness – it was strangely therapeutic. In those few moments spent in the kitchen, away from the incessant demands of my day, I found myself completely absorbed, almost meditative. The aroma of melting chocolate filled the air, a comforting scent that soothed my frazzled nerves. It was a mini-escape, a moment of quiet amidst the storm.

And the taste? Oh, the taste! Rich, decadent, and utterly irresistible. The combination of smooth, dark chocolate and the sweet, hazelnutty Nutella is a match made in dessert heaven. These truffles are the perfect balance of sweet and rich, not too overwhelming, not too subtle – just right. They’re the kind of treat that satisfies a craving without leaving you feeling overly guilty (though moderation is always key!). I even experimented with adding a sprinkle of sea salt on top of some, which created a beautiful contrast between sweet and salty.

The best part? The entire process took less than an hour, including chilling time. An hour of pure bliss, an hour of mindful creation, an hour of escape. And the end result? A beautiful tray of delectable Nutella truffles that brought smiles (and happy sighs) to everyone who tasted them. My kids devoured them; my husband declared them "the best truffles ever"; and I finally had a moment to myself, to savor the sweet reward of a successfully completed project – a project that involved far less stress and far more chocolate than my usual workload.

So, whether you’re a busy mom like me, a stressed-out executive, or simply someone who appreciates a delicious and effortless dessert, I urge you to give these Nutella truffles a try. They're not just a recipe; they're a little piece of self-care, a reminder to pause, indulge, and enjoy the simple pleasures in life.
