Step-by-step

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Place ground turkey in a medium size bowl. Add salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, ricotta cheese, breadcrumbs and mustard and mix until well blended (your hands are the best tool). Divide meat mixture into 4 equal portions. Lightly toss one portion from hand to hand to form a ball, then lightly flatten ball with fingertips into a 1-inch-thick patty. Repeat with remaining portions.
  • Heat a large, heavy, ovenproof skillet over medium heat until very hot, 4 to 5 minutes. Add oil to pan and swirl to coat bottom. Add burgers and cook over medium heat without moving burgers until bottom side of each is dark golden brown and crusted, 3 to 4 minutes. Turn burgers over; continue to cook until bottom side is light brown but not yet crusted, about 3 minutes longer. Transfer pan to oven and continue cooking for about 7-8 minutes, or until burgers are completely cooked (an instant-read thermometer inserted from the side of the burger into the center should register 160 degrees). Remove from pan and serve immediately.
Juicy and Flavorful Pan-Seared Turkey Burgers

My Secret to the Perfect Turkey Burger

As a busy working mom, finding quick, healthy, and delicious meals is a constant challenge. I've tried countless turkey burger recipes, always ending up disappointed with dry, bland patties. Then, I stumbled upon a game-changer: ricotta cheese! This simple addition transformed my turkey burgers from blah to unbelievably juicy and flavorful. I'm sharing my secret recipe with you today, and I'm confident it will become a family favorite.

What sets this recipe apart is the addition of ricotta cheese to the ground turkey mixture. It adds moisture and richness, creating incredibly tender and flavorful burgers. No more dry, crumbly disappointments! The ricotta also lends a subtle creaminess that complements the savory turkey perfectly. I use 93% lean ground turkey for a healthier option, but you can adjust the leanness to your preference. Feel free to experiment with different additions – I often throw in some sauteed onions or mushrooms, a sprinkle of herbs, or even some chopped jalapeños for a spicy kick.

Beyond the ricotta, I focus on building flavor through a simple blend of seasonings. A touch of salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard creates a delicious foundation. But the real magic is in the cooking process. I use a heavy, oven-safe skillet to sear the burgers, creating a beautiful crust on the outside while ensuring they’re cooked through to perfection on the inside. The oven finishes the cooking process, resulting in juicy, perfectly cooked patties every time.

These turkey burgers are remarkably versatile. Serve them on buns with your favorite toppings – lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese – or enjoy them as part of a larger meal. I love them on toasted brioche buns with a creamy avocado spread, crispy bacon, and a side of sweet potato fries. They’re also fantastic served in lettuce wraps for a lower-carb option. The possibilities are endless!

Beyond the Basics: Customizing Your Turkey Burgers

One of the best things about this recipe is its adaptability. It's a blank canvas for your culinary creativity! Here are a few ideas to make these burgers your own:

  • Gourmet Burgers: Elevate your burgers with gourmet toppings like brie cheese, caramelized onions, or roasted red peppers.
  • Spicy Burgers: Add a kick with some chopped jalapeños, sriracha, or your favorite hot sauce.
  • Herby Burgers: Fresh or dried herbs, such as parsley, thyme, or oregano, can add a delightful aromatic dimension.
  • Mediterranean Burgers: Incorporate sun-dried tomatoes, Kalamata olives, and feta cheese for a Mediterranean twist.
  • Breakfast Burgers: Try adding some crumbled bacon, cheddar cheese, and a fried egg for a hearty breakfast burger.

Tips for Success:

  • Don't overwork the meat: Gently mix the ingredients to avoid toughening the burgers.
  • Use a heavy skillet: This ensures even cooking and a crispy crust.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: Cook the burgers in batches to prevent steaming.
  • Use a meat thermometer: This is the best way to ensure that the burgers are cooked to a safe internal temperature.

This recipe is more than just a meal; it's a testament to the power of simple ingredients and a little creativity in the kitchen. It’s a go-to for busy weeknights and a crowd-pleaser for weekend gatherings. Try it, and I’m confident you'll agree – these are the best turkey burgers you'll ever have!
