Step-by-step

  • Combine warm water, butter, milk powder, 1/4 cup sugar, salt, egg, egg white, flour, and yeast in a bread machine and start the dough program.
  • When 5 minutes of kneading remain, add currants and cinnamon.
  • Allow to rest in the machine until doubled in size.
  • Punch down and let rest for 10 minutes.
  • Form into 12 balls and place in a greased 9 x 12 inch pan.
  • Cover and allow to rise in a warm place for 35-40 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  • Mix egg yolk and 2 tablespoons water.
  • Brush egg yolk mixture onto the buns.
  • Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20 minutes.
  • Remove from the pan and cool on a wire rack.
  • Combine confectioners' sugar, vanilla, and milk.
  • Pipe a cross onto each bun using a piping bag or a sandwich bag with the corner snipped off.
